January, 2016

Dear Parents:

We have enjoyed a wonderful start to our school year at Wagner Elementary School.  The holiday break is now a pleasant memory and we wish everyone a happy and healthy 2016! Wagner Elementary School students, parents and staff members have much to look forward to as our school year progresses.

The new library and computer lab opened during the weeks of January 4 and January 11.  Thank you to the PYLUSD Board of Education, and the district office administration for making so many things possible for our children.  A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony date and time will be announced in the near future.

Wagner Elementary School is proud to announce that a Preppy K class will be offered on campus for the 2016-17 school year. Preppy K and Kindergarten registration packets will be available on Monday, February 1st.  Registration will take place on Friday, February 26th from 9:00-11:00am in our MPR.  Please inform friends and neighbors who do not currently have children at Wagner Elementary School about our Preppy K and Kindergarten registration.

The Wagner PBIS program has added a game room opportunity for one primary and one upper grade class that meet specific weekly challenges.  The past challenges have included a game room opportunity for the cleanest primary and upper grade classroom, and most polite classes at the lunch tables.  Students have enjoyed going to the game room.  Winning classes have included Mrs. Staples, Mrs. Lighthipe, Mrs. Munoz and Mrs. Marasco. The new challenge for the right to play in the game room for thirty minutes is for the straightest pick up lines.

The staff and I are strongly committed to creating a warm, safe and positive environment.  Each student is encouraged and supported to develop his or her individual potential.  Following are a couple of procedures that are important for us to review in order for our school to maintain a safe environment:

There is no supervision prior to 8:05 a.m.  Students are asked not to arrive before 8:05 a.m. and must go directly home when dismissed.  We encourage parents to be prompt when picking up children after school because the supervision of our children is important to us.  Make certain that your child knows who is going to pick up him or her up at school and where he or she should meet that person. Please remember school is dismissed at 1:47 p.m. for students in grades 1-6 on Wednesday afternoons.

If you are coming on campus for any reason our safety policy requires that individuals check in at the office in order to obtain a Visitors Pass and to sign in.  Adults should not be on campus without a pass.  This is very important.

We are asking all of our parents and community members to fully respect and comply with the legal guidelines for our red striped curbs, reserved parking and handicapped locations.

Thank you for being part of the solution!
