What is Founder’s Day?  Is it to celebrate the Presidents of the US?
When Wagner Elementary School and the PTA celebrate Founder’s Day it just happens to be coincidence that it falls around President’s Day.  Nationally PTA commemorates the first National Congress of Mothers convention that took place February 17 through 19 in 1897.  This convention emphasizes the importance of parent involvement in the schools and showcases the role that PTA has played on behalf of our children.  In 1910, it was proposed that PTAs nationally celebrate this day.

We take the time out to honor people that have provided significant service to the school and our children.  Among a long list of distinguished people who volunteer countless hours of their personal time, this year Wagner PTA has honored two people.

Congratulations and many thanks to Annette Flores and Cari Quackenbush.

We also thank the parents for making the PTA possible, the students for the wonderful and entertaining musical performances and the teachers who organized the performances.

Mathematics Textbooks Placed on 30-Day Public Review

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District has undertaken an extensive review of mathematics textbook programs in Kindergarten through Algebra II.   Over 140 teachers have been examining the materials and piloting them in their classrooms since September.  As a result of this review, a recommendation was made to the Board of Education at the February 10th board meeting to place the following textbooks on a 30-day public display.  These materials are now on display at the Professional Development Center at 4999 Casa Loma Avenue in Yorba Linda.

·        K-5 -  Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – California Math Expressions

·        6-8 - Big Ideas Learning/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – Big Ideas Math

·        High School – Big Ideas Learning/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – Big Ideas Math

Interested parents are welcome to stop by the Professional Development Center any time during business hours (8:30 am – 4:30 pm) to review these materials.
